Mecca and Madinah are cities of great importance in Islamic tradition -- centers of pilgrimage and prayer, sacred places where Muslims are free from the distractions of daily life. The ban on non-Muslim visitors is mentioned in the Qur’an as follows: "Oh you who believe! Truly the idolaters are unclean; so let them not, after this year, approach the Sacred Mosque...." (9:28). This verse specifically refers to the Grand Mosque in Mecca; later scholars have included Madinah in this ruling as well.

Interesting, snakeeyes, but it's not half as secret as it used to be - you can see Mecca and Medina on Google Earth, grand mosques and all, and photos are commonplace. I accept there is a a sign outside Mecca which says "Muslims this way, non-Muslims that way" so non-Muslims can't get anywhere near Mecca, but this is not the same as we are discussing here about the proposed building in the US.
If this is built there i feel that this would be a great opportunity to educate and teach the muslims there, old young and new converts about the murderous terrorist atrocities that happened there, and that we westerners can be forgiving and loving people, this i believe would give us kudos in the muslim world, would you as a terrorist that hated Usa, want to kill and damage a city that had been so welcoming towards you? My guess is that new york would be left alone in any future operations.

No. I think it's an insensitive decision of the planning committee, and the Muslims to want to build a Mosque there. Also I think it will be an easy hideout for Muslim terrorist; they would be closer to the financial district of New York and it would be easier for them to access buildings which they may want to target if they so wish.
Society There are almost a million Muslims in New York City. (Some sources claim 1.4 million; the New York City Community Affairs Bureau states the figure as 800 000.) There are more than 100 mosques in the city, plus an unknown number of small mosques that worshipers set up in their apartments or places that are not visible from the street, so how would this make an easy hideout compared to the many other places that are not in the public spotlight, also you say that if this goes ahead it will make it easier to access buildings which they may want to target? What does that mean, do you think that if this goes ahead they will be given special 'Access all area" passes to be able to bypass security and get then into restricted places? im pretty sure that a terrorist that wants to access somewhere in orsder to target it will do so whether this is built or not.
