WIN98 screen freeze
1 Answers
Hi, my screen keeps freezing without any warning or pattern to when/why it does this - any ideas why? I have Abit BP6/Celeron 500/128Mb RAM/30Gb Barracuda/Matrox Millenium G400 dual head AGP/Realtek NIC/Creative AWE64 Gold soundcard/Pinnacle PCTV card... the soundcard is ISA - could this be the problem? Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Reboot then see if your freezing returns. I doubt it is because you have an ISA soundcard, it is more likely that you need to rebuild Windows 98 (which is notoriously unstable) because of device/application conflicts. Msconfig allows you to switch off unessential "background" applications (which can cause a variety of problems -most notably prevention of Windows to shut down properly) from starting up in the first place. I would consider upgrading your OS to Windows 2000/XP, your machiine can certainly handle it, as once you make the change you will never look back (although you may have to change the ISA card for XP!).
