Brussell sprouts

Do you think its about the right time now to put the sprouts on for Christmas day. I like mine soggy not firm. (The sprouts I mean not my woman.)

Oh my dad tried that explanation with me but I don't go by official dates because I don't think they reflect the weather (which in my view is the real indicator of seasons) I would say the seasons start on the first of each month, much easier that way!

I know what you mean, sophie. A lot of people here say that Fall starts just after Labor Day and the kids are back in school: around the first week in September.

I mostly base it on summer, because I would say that is definitely June, July, August and then work out the others from there but then it gets a bit messy at autumn/winter because November can be so wintery (21st of December is way too late for official winter start date!) but then winter goes on till the end of February so would make winter 4 months and autumn only 2!
Have given this a lot of thought over the years, can you tell?

Also stewey- what is Labor Day? And why aren't people allowed to wear white after it, and when does this run til?

About those sprouts m558, It is a bit early, you may find the pan boils dry then starts to burn and the SMELL when that happens is awful - awful, so pace it a little, perhaps leave it a couple more weeks.
Mash soggy sprouts with a lump of butter (no marge) divide into clumps and fry in a v/hot f/pan till brown, mmmm! delish.

Labor Day is a long weekend (bank holiday?) recognized in Canada/US on the first Monday in September. That 'white' business is a kind of snobby tradition upheld by some members of the 'upper crust':)

You're a tad late with the sprouts mr. !st September without fail on a low heat is best for Christmas. I'd leave the parsnips until next week though.
