I think it was meant to be a cliffhanger as they didn't know when it was filmed that it would be the last one ever.
Does anyone agree that this series has been under-advertised? No trailers, no reminders... I reckon 'they' were wanting to keep the viewing figures down so that they would seem to be justified in axing it.
