Missing on CD

I can think of a few examples of albums that miss little tricks that the vinyl versions had -

On Focus III by Focus, on the title track on vinyl, Pierre van der Linden counts them in with 'One two three...' and is interupted by Thijs van Leer going "Nnnh.." and counting them in again with 'Nnnh nnh nnh nnh ...' before they kick off - that along with an entire track (!) - 'House Of The King' is missing.

Likewise, on Mott The Hoople's 'Mott' album, vinyl version, if you turn up the volume full blast just before 'Whizz Kid' starts, you hear one of the band go 'T'ohhh' in a seriously camp voice - again cut of the CD issue.

Paul McCartney's 'Ram' album has Buddy Holly's 'Love Is Strange' on the original - missing on the CD re-issue.

Anyone add any more mess-abouts or missing songs from favourite platters that matter?

The cd version of "Tie Your Mother Down" by Queen goes straight into the main riff. I recall the vinyl version having a small guitar intro followed by a large gong sound.

I know this isn't really what you're asking about, but the thing I really miss about the vinyl albums over the CDs is the sleeves. Some of them were works of art - I'm thinking about Led Zep 3 or Physical Grafitti, or the white album, or Sgt Pepper with the cut out moustaches etc.
With a CD you get a poxy little booklet, and of course with a download you don't even get that.

Entirely agree with you ludwig. i remember my ELP triple album feeling less of a massive expense at £5:00 because it had a fold-out sleeve and so on.

Art work with albums is a generational thing, and will die out as does the nostalgia for '78's - and what the 'young people' have never had, they won't miss.
