I have lost my XP Pro installation CD.  It would appear that the driver for my LG GCR-8523B CD-ROM is corrupt.  I have tried a Teac CD-ROM with the same result.  That is, the CD's are recognised by the system-hardware-device manager but show a yellow exclamation mark.  I have tried (?) to update the firmware from the LG website but no go.  Windows will not find an updated or replacement driver, where can I get the Win XP driver from please?

I usually use www.driverguide.com

pretty bullettproof once you get past the registration. I checked for your cdrom but could not find it exactly. but i did find a gce-8523b which i reckon  is the same thing. would put in a link but site is p/w protected. Good luck

You can download firmware v1.04 from the LG support website - http://us.lgservice.com/

Navigate via...  Device Driver → CD-ROM(Writer) → GCR-8523B104(XP,2000)EW.zip

Thanks for your help, guys, I followed both your url's and came up with firmware updates but no XP driver.  I have chatted to a few people and have used the system restore facility which I knew nothing about.  Anyway it now works, presumably having rolled back the driver until it installed the non-corrupt version.

Thanks again.
