reno will charge lots as with all reno's when the key loses code you have to have it taken to them as they know the code. there is a way round this as its an immobiliser fault (this has lost sync with the key) in the handbook should be a 4 digit override code, pressing the pedals and turning the ignition as it states will let you immobilise the immobiliser so you'll just have to open car with key and drive, and lock with key. my stepdad done this on a N reg laguna, I had to do the code and press the pedals but it is easy and you can do it yourself at no expense.
Our keys stopped working last year on our renault magane and as wilkesneil says above a four number code could be needed, we got the code from our renault dealer for £25 plus a print out on how to do it.
but unfortuantly this didnt work for me, so we had our immobiliser taken off (at a cost of £90).
after a bit of googling this seems to be quite a common problem with the older renault meganes. (mines on a N plate).
I would check wether that £200 is to also fix the immobilisor in the car itself because £200 is rather excesive just for the fob.
I needed a new one for my citroen and that was £76.
