Did anyone see it the other night? They had a section about apples in which the over sized/undersized and mishaped apples that were not allowed to be sold under eu rules where made into apple juice. Dose this happen to all fruits and veg, do all of the ones that can't be sold made into juices and put into foods ect? Exported maybe? Surely nothings thrown away?

Why re they not mad into juice or made into ice cream or put into cakes or flans? Surely their shapes wouldn't matter to the makers of drinks/flans?
Some chefs rummaged around in Tesco's bins and picked out food that was wonky and made a meal to show there was nothing wrong with it.
Except being ridden with bacteria from the bins.

Apparently-supermarkets are stocking only 'perfect' fruit and veg because that's what WE want.......funny-no one I know feels that way. I don't care about size or shape-only taste and quality. Last week on Food-they followed fine beans from growing-in Kenya-to being packaged and sold here. Something like 20% of the farmers crop was considered unsuitable-so ended up as animal feed.
I have read a few articles regarding Dumpster Diving and have yet to read about someone becoming ill from it as the generally only choose food stuff that is sealed etc... Obviously there are people who eat from waste due to circumstance and may have to just eat what they can find.
I personally couldn't care less about what an apple/carrot/potato looks like as long as it's ok to eat.
