Norfolk holidays - again!

It's me again. Have found a few places that look good for the family (6 adults 4 children - large house) but just wanted a bit of info on these places in Norfolk: Old Hunstanton, Hunstanton and Bacton-on-Sea. What do you think? As usual all opinions very gratefully received.

Old Hunstanton is lovely a few minutes walk from that is Hunstanton, Amusements, fair etc. I prefer old hunstanton, beaches are quieter and some lovely pubs and hotels. Never been to Bacton

I have stayed at Hunstanton a few times in the last few years.

Hunstanton is really 3 places in one. Here is a map to show what I mean:

"Old Hunstanton" (in the North) was the original village and is full of old buildings, a lovely church, duck pond etc, and is right next to the beach. But it is VERY quiet and very little to do there.

Then in Victorian times a railway arrived at Hunstanton at a rich man in the area built some lovely houses, a pub, town hall etc. I suppose this could be considered the Northern part of the main town. Many of these old houses are now B&Bs and we stayed in one of them a few times and it was lovely.

Then the railway closed down (it came in from the South) and this became a caravan site, fun fair etc, and is a bit tacky.

If you are staying on Old Hunstanton, or the Northern part of Hunstanton town, then that will be fine, if it is round then Southern part of Hunstanton town then maybe avoid.

I actually like Hunstanton a lot, Lovely beach and setting, nice cliff and cliff walk, fair amount to do, and inland from Hunstanton is really nice.

Also great sunsets as the town actually faces WEST (even though it is on the East coast) and the sun sets over the Wash so sunsets look great from Hunstanton.

On the map I posted above the white area at the bottom is the caravan site and fun fair.

There are quite a few large houses on the sea front along there, and some of them are very nice, but they do have the fun fair and caravan site right behind them.

Now I am retired I have considerd moving to Hunstanton (in one of the lage houses in the North of the town) so it cant be that bad.

I know you are not staying in a B&B but it gives you an example of the some of the lovely Victorian houses in the Northern part of the town.

Not sure if you will come back and read this, but I will add it anyway.

The area all along the North coast, from Hunstanton to Cromer is quite amazing. I only discovered it a few years ago but now love the place.

Some nice places to stop and look round, including Wells next the Sea, Sherringham, Cley Next the Sea etc (I was not too keen on Cromer).

Some HUGE beaches when the tide goes out (Holkham and other places).

Lots of nature reserves and places to bird watch all along the coast.

You can see the seals at Blakeney point (need to go out by boat).

Holkham Hall and other large houses nearby.

Sandringham is South of Hunstatron. Even if you dont go into Sandringham house there is loads of land / woods round it you can visit for free (large car park with cafe, shops etc)

Kings Lynn is nearby and has some fine old buildings..

If you go to Wells next the sea park in the town and the walk out along the man made "pier" (or take the small train).

Then you get to Holkham Beach which is quite amazing (it is where they filmed the end of Shakespeare in Love if you have seen that flim).

When the tide is out it is like the sahara desert.

Totally agree with VHG regards the coastline and the places mentioned.

Have also had good reports from friends who have taken their kids to BeWILDerwood (google it) this Summer, and the pool at Sheringham (flumes, waves, etc.).

It might look like it is on the other side of the county to Old Hunstanton, but it doesn't take long to tour the entire North Norfolk Coast or travel from one side of the county to the other.
