My second daughter didn't have a name chosen until she was born, I took one look at her and decided she looked like a Rebecca, and that is what she was named. My son was named by his dad who gave me the option of vetoing any name I absolutely hated. His choices were Caleb and Jacob and I hated Caleb so he is Jacob Patrick. (Patrick is oh's dad's name)

We decided if it was a girl her dad would choose her name and I if a boy.He couldn't think what to call her, one night while watching TV an actress Jeanette Stark was on & he said thats it we'll call her Jeanette. My son was born 2 years later, I had known since I was a child what I would call a boy. When I was a girl my friends brother was called Michael and he was a smashing kid soo from then on a son would be Michael.
My third child a girl was going to be called Caroline, right from the start but a couple of weeks before the birth my neighbour who was expecting about the same time asked me what I would be calling mine if it was a girl and I told her - - & what did she do gave birth a week before me and called her little girl 'Caroline' grrrr!
So after a lot of thought we called her Sarah after her grandma.
I was named after my grandma too.

when my MIL was pregnant with Mr CRX, she wanted to call him Matthew, her cousin gave birth just before her and called her son Matthew instead. So Mr CRX said that if we had a son that would be his name. So i didnt even have to consider names really as its tradition in the family to give a son his fathers name as a middle name.
My mum always read me "amelia Jane books" as a child and even though I had said when first was born that if a girl she would be "Sabina" or "Alice" i had an urge in last few weeks of second pregnancy to call baby "Amelia" if she was a girl.

My eldest son was named Jake after a lovely little boy my wife and I met whilst living on a farm in Wales, 2nd son was named after the Dylan song 'Joey' and the third was named Nathan after Joni Mitchell's 'Nathan La Franeer'. His middle name is Adam as my father wanted to name me after whoever scored the first goal for Northampton Town v Southampton in the FA Cup 3rd round in 1950. It was Adam McCulloch, but my mother didn't like the name. My father told me how I should have been called Adam every birthday, so we thought we'd please him. Also my wife is called Gelda as her mother liked the name, but we've never met another one (to be honest, there couldn't be another one).
I was the 7th in my family so I was named by a neighbour who only had sons herself. We only had a girls name picked out when my first son was born - we had rejected all the names we had on our list - the last to be rejected was Alec - but he didn't look like an Alec. It was July and all the graduation lists were in the paper so we went down those names and had a choice of Gregor or Craig and he ended up Craig (Although Oh wanted to use Gaelic spelling Creag - but I over-ruled!). It means a Crag or a rock and as he was 9lb 13oz, we thought it fitting.
We decided it was a waste of time to think up a name in advance when we were having our second so we waited until the baby was born to come up with a name. Our 2nd son then didn't have a name for a week and a half. My OH said, I think that Gregor sounds to close to Craig to use that - I had never even considered using a rejected name for him. Anyway after a long elimination process we ended up with Keir and Kieran. I didn't like Kieran and in it's Gaelic form it means "the little dark one" - as we didn't think he would be little we plumped for Ciar - the original form of Ciaran (Gaelic spelling - he won on that one since I got my way with the name!) However, it is rare for anyone to say, never mind spell his name correctly which is what I managed to avoid with my first - so I'll just tell him to blame his father! And to cap it all off - although he was dark as a baby and he still has olive skin. he was a very blond child though his hair is darkening a bit now!
