how do i rewire my new light fitting

in the existing ceiling fitting there is 2 red + 2 black + 1 with a red sleeve+ 2 green and yellows stripe. In the lamp there is metal earth, blue + brown.

Brown on lamp connections to black with red sleeve. Blue on lamp to the two other blacks. Reds connect to each other & nothing else. Earth on lamp to green/yellows. Turn power off before doing anything!

Razza, sorry but that's cobblers! I should know I AM an electrician unlike you, I suspect. The only time it would even begin to come under Part P of the Building Regs (Building regs, note, not "Law") is if it were in a kitchen or bathroom, but even then such a task is not beyond the skills of a sensible person, it's only the notification to LABC that's the issue.

Replacement of a light fitting is not "illegal" in any respect and is well within the skills of most householders. Gloriag, please don't listen to razza, he/she is talking rubbish!
