How do you cook a Frey Bentos Steak and Kidney Pie without an oven? Bought one for a caravan holiday next week but only have hob, microwave and portable halogen oven. Any ideas please.
I would think its the halogen oven. You can`t do it on a hob because it needs to be browned. You can`t do it in a microwave because it is in a metal tin. that`ll be the oven then.
Think youre snookered unless the halogen takes metal.I only heard about them today on This Morning -i am so out the loop :)
Theyre handy to have as well -£1 out semi-chems up here -always have some in the cupboard.
I never, never eat pastry but for some reason I love Frey Bentos steak and kidney pie in a tin. I love it with boiled potatos and green veg. A bit of extra gravy doesn`t go amiss either. Maybe it takes me back to my youth.
Thanks Chuckfickens for really helpful answer, I read the reviews and will have a go. Had the oven for 3 months and only used it twice so must persevere.
I used to adore them years ago. Bought a couple recently as they were on special offer and was very disappointed. Not as much meat in them as there used to be, and nowhere near as tasty.
I have a halogen oven, there is no reason it should not be cooked in one. Remove lid fron the pie tin, pop in halogen, select cooking temp approx 10-15 degrees less than stated on tin, and cook for about a third lesss time than stated, or until its done and enjoy xx
