You could have just burst a tiny blood vessel in which case it will clear up over a few days.

Thank you very much for your comments
Have you got a cold? I ask cos my daughter and her granny both had bad colds in the past week or so, and both of them had one really red, sore eye in the first few days of it. Dunno what it was but it cleared up on it's own.
How wierd, I had a really red sore eye a couple of mornings right before my evil head cold appeared. It just cleared up on its own.

Worth getting it looked at if it doesn't clear up and it's painful. I've got a scratch on my eye before now and that was really sore (contact lens incident). Similarly when something has irritated them like a bit of contact lens tearing off and getting stuck somewhere.
That is strange Jenna - my daughter said it had happened to a few people at school too, but she has a habit of 'exaggerating' so I didn't take her too seriously :)
Is the eye normal in appearance? If the answer is yes....then boxtops is correct.
If the eye itself is involved, as well as the eyelid, then you need to go to yourGP

The eye itself is ok. Funnily it seems alot better today, after 3 days.
