at new years i can be either in Laos, cambodia, vietnam or thailand.
i know in thailand they have a full moon party but i dont really want to go to one of them. where would you spend it if you had the chance. im quite stuck!

Well, might sound boring but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else than in my local. Roaring fire, good company, good beer and the day after is even better. It snowed last / this year which was even better.

Depends on what you want (party, romantic meal etc etc). Personally, I'd go to Siam Reap and spend it in a temple, but then again I've already had 12 NYEs in Thailand.

Laos is so out-of-the-way that outside the big hotels I wouldn't expect they'd actually celebrate New Year. (They have their own, in the middle of April.) So if you're looking to avoid it altogether, try there - Luang Prabang's a lovely place.

and Jno thanks for the info, unfortunatly im in Oz in april but that would have been good! i dont know laos very well, do you have anywhere to suggest i go? i want to see the culture really.
