if i need to leave work early for a doctors appointment.... does my employer have the right to ask for a doctors note? if it is only for an afternoon? thx

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.depends on your workplace sickness/ absence policy, if the time requested appears unreasonable then most employers would; I suspect, ask for evidence...and most would have a reasonable expectation you would make appointments as late in the afternoon as possible so you minimise the time you need off...if someone working for me asked for a whole afternoon for a doctors appt I would be tempted to ask for evidence...or would ask them to try to rearrange it for later in the day or early in the morning.
if you couldn't get a later one.. If someone said I tried to get one after 4pm but they'd all gone that would be reasonable...if they persistantly couldn't I would start asking for proof by the third or fourth occasion...its a pain living so far from work i had that problem some years back..and it does make it hard to fit things in
