I have had a day from hell.

When those two young children died in Corfu we bought a plug in carbon monoxide detector. Unfortunately every now and again we have to unplug it as we need the socket for other things. It has inadvertently been unplugged for several months. to cut a long story short we have both been feeling off colour for over a month feeling nauseas, groggy and been off our food. Anyway i moved a few things today and underneath there was the detector I plugged it in and all hell broke loose. The alarm screamed its highest pitch. I have had the gas leak man, the cooker man, the boiler man and Uncle Tom Cobbly and all. Now we know why we were feeling so ill. It has cost an arm and a leg, but who cares. We are alive to tell the tale. Please learn from my story. I have put this in chat so Hopefully more people will read it.

The council fitted one for us which is wired into the mains with a battery back up. That must have been quite scary Mic, and lucky you found it when you did. I hope you all recover soon.

we need to check our smoke alarm batteries too, there are 4 alarms up the stairs, doesn't take a minute to poke the check button... do we do it..? not as often as we should. Thanks for the alert, micmak.

I kept smelling gas in my flat just in the doorway. Thing was I didnt even have gas!. I still got gas man out though and he couldnt detect a thing in my flat. He went to downstairs (I lived above an indian) and went out back to their kitchens they had gas leaking out in the kitchens, he turned it all off until they got it fixed, but he says even though that was leaking it wouldnt have detected it in my flat and he couldnt smell a thing and I wasnt even directly above kitchens. Maybe it was a warning sign from someone looking over me :-)

4get the problem with carbon monoxide is it is odourless and tasteless. The only way you know you have a problem is to use a detector.

I agree NM but you can smell smoke and gas but not CM.
