my wireless connection appears to be about 2mb according to the icon in the task bar but the wired connection icon says 100mb. Is this possible? Obviously hard wired should be faster but 98mb faster? Or, is the wireless speed shown only that between router and PC?TIA

Between router and PC. It's only as fast as the slowest part of your network.
The task bar would always show the speed between the router and the computer regardless of Internet speed.

If you are only getting 2mb on your wireless you must have a really low signal strength!
