Imteresting.. I have huge sympathy for genuine asylum seekers in fear of their lives, but the numbers trying to get into the country here have been reducing over the years I believe. Is this another case of confusing asylum seekers with economic migrants?

Yes boxtops I can see where you are coming from, but.

Don't you think a 'Genuine Asylum Seeker' would seek refuge in the nearest safe country, not travel thousands of miles to try and settle specifically in the UK?

And if they do come here, surely it is them who should be given temporary type of accommodation, not having prime housing stock specially set aside for them.

You all seem to be saying that there should be no asylum seekers here as they need to travel across other countries to get here.
I cant believe that at last a council has had the courage to do what most people think is the right attitude to take - i.e. that established residents of the UK come first. Lets hope more follow suit.
Bout time ..

A.S. go where they have heard there might be work, and cheap or free housing. Unfortunately this is usually at the expense of our citizens.

Let's put you in an completely hypothetical situation here.

Say this country became hostile to you for some reason, and that you needed to escape imminent danger in this country.

The options open to you were Scotland or Wales, in either of these countries you would be completely safe.

Would you choose to ignore these options and make your way, half way across Europe or over the Atlantic to the USA before you requested asylum?
