Question for you as a gp. When you refered a patient to hospital what were your criteria for deciding whether they could make their own way or they needed an ambulance?
Morning bobs - in case sqad is eating his breakfast, does this help? http://www.scarboroug...patient_transport.php
or this one, quite comprehensive but not sure if it's what you're looking for - the criteria for when the patient is eligible for transport are a few pages in http://www.whittingto...0July%202010_8857.pdf
bob...I was only a GP for 3years and not a very good one at that....hated it.

Well...
a) If no transport was available...relatives usually had good excuses for not being available.
b) Collapse(for whatever reason), severe breathlessness or cardiac pain.
c) Immobility due to trauma.
d) If they were "mouthy" like some ABers, I would tell them to get to hospital under the their own steam.

Usually, the Receptionist was excellent and she organised that end of the practice.
When my GP was sending me to hospital I wasn't given any options.

Hope those links might help too, bobjugs? ... I work with GP surgeries and so it was useful for me to see what you were asking, too.
