Hi guys,
thanks for taking the time to respond.
EDDIE51 you are certainly correct that some fines (Council Tax, Child Support Agency etc) are not written-off with a custodial sentence.
I've decided to opt for this route for two reasons. Firstly I'm not currently in a position to pay. At present I don't work and I don't claim state benefits. And secondly I'm exercising a point of principle. I don't wish to reveal too many details in these messages, but if indeed I'm committed to prison I'll post the full reasons on my release. Indeed I'll post a link to a local newspaper article about my position who were very supportive as is depicted in their piece. In brief I am compelled to pay compensation which is folly on behalf of the Judge who imposed it.
As one reply alluded to I will not acquire a criminal record as a consequence of this decision because it's regarded as a civil matter (although I have a record anyway).
And finally fear of imprisonment may deter those who have a job, a home and a family, but I have none of these and therefore the prospect of a brief suspension of my civil privledges is no deterrent.
Take care guys.
