Evidently they have been divided into 3 groups, the firdt are the more experienced miners (probably the eldest).

Says she's happy he's safe -can you just imagine his face when its just the mistress there.Thats taken the wind out of their sails !! Good on her keeping her dignity :)

Ah poor wife, it's hard to imagine a miner having a mistress. The wife gets the grubby bits and pieces to wash and feed and then he trots off to see the mistress all clean and chipper, no, not fair!
