When I took the back off the appliance, I found that there was a long curled element around the drum, which obviously heated up when in use. However, this element had snapped away from its terminal.
It was just a case of stretching it very slightly and reattaching to the connector (can't remember but I think it was just a screw type with a flat plate, the sort you get on numerous bits of electrical equipment). It took about 10 minutes to repair and only needed screwdrivers and a pair of pliers. It's worth checking see if this is the cause of your problem.
