Is it possible to wash a suit?

Im absolutely spending a fortune every week on dry cleaning bills and I was informed recently that there is a special bag you can use in your washing machine, has anyone heard of this or used this? Personally I can't see this working as some of my suits are very fragile material. Any ideas tips or advice will be welcomed.
