I watched the Big Bang programme on Panorama last night. I've never bought into the Big Bang Theory so it's nice to see that it is losing momentum among some scientists. Obviously no one can answer my question with any certainty so just your thoughts and theories are welcome. Basically what I am wondering is, if the universe is expanding, what is it expanding into? Is the universe creating time and space at its outer reaches as it expands?

"What is beyond the universe ?" once you've been provided with the answer - what are you going to do with the information and may I hitch a ride with you ? (I'll get me towel)
If the Earth, our solar system, or the Milky Way for that matter, were ever at anytime at the centre of the universe, wasn't for long. They all wobble and move around too much to be a the centre of anything for long, let alone our thoughts . . . unless one of you thinks the entire universe wobbles with you. Why would I not be surprised?

Maybe my fault, but the hole centre of the universe is getting off the point of the thread. As I said, I think I'm gonna go with my black hole in every direction theory.

Ok, there's nothing at the centre - not for very long long anyway, because it's all wobbling. But there's still a notional centre - a fixed point equidistant from all the edges.
Yeah, we're pretty much trapped at the centre of the observable universe.

Unless we free our minds, man.
