I have just found out that my home insurance for the building lapsed over a year ago.  I am led to believe that it is required because of the mortgage.  How do I go about getting covered again...

Just phone your insurance company and renew it, or take out a new policy.

Won't affect your mortgage- count yourself lucky that you did not have to claim in the past 12 months!
