im planning on having a bash at making my own (veg) curry... !

im after some tried and tested ideas please.

now, im not a lover of the jars you can buy, sharwoods and pattaks and the rest,
but i am planning on buying a jar of the ready made paste though to start me off, as that contains the inital spices, so ive heard, is that right..? (any recommendations on which one to get?)

sooo, in my pan would go the paste, plus garlic and ginger, yes?
are there any other spices i should also use?

and then i was going to add some chopped peppers and tomatoes and add some water..
now i do like a nice saucy curry, so do you think some chopped tinned tomatoes would be best or maybe just chopped fresh ones, or even both? and then let it simmer...?

im a novice! so any tips and ideas would be great if you have any please?

thanks :o)

no, nor me, theyre a bit too pungent arent they mcfluff?

i had enough of cloves not so long back when i had bad toothache! i bought a jar of them and used a few to help ease the pain lol.

i went for a meal at someone house not long after my mouth had got better, and theyd cooked a lovely big ham joint.
it was nice .... but .... i wasnt tooo struck myself.
theyd cooked it with a few (a few too many i think!) of these damn cloves popped into it.
and each bite of meat i took, thats all i could flippin taste! .... 'orrible it was .. especially having had a shed load just days before for me tooth! lol.
Tea cup of well rinsed rice, covered with inch of boiled water, salt and in microwave for 10mins (cling film over to stop spillage).

Fry tsp of coriander seeds, 3 cardemons till they jump then add cooked rice & stir (5mins) - for pillau
