Watching programmes like Masterchef, they regularly come out with phrases like "pan fried" or "oven baked" but how else would you fry or bake something?
It seems rather excessive to me. You wouldn't say "Try this bread. It is knife-cut".
Anyone know why?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.All jobs or crafts have their own language...so-there will be words used by brickies,or artists or doctors, that will seem unfamiliar or pretentious to the layman...but they are usually words that have a historical basis.....we are hearing more cookery terms simply because it is more trendy to cook in a certain way. Of course-new words will always get invented along the way.
