I would like to know where I can purchase a CD with music played by , what I beleive is a saxaphone or trumpet - with that device that's attached at the opening at the end ;which the player opens and closes

I will try and convey the sound i'm talking about , as follows-

I've heard this music played for example when one is watching a scene of an american city , where there is a panaromic view or it's a scene of a street - it's a night scene - it's smoggy , you can hear the sound of car horns and see the lights from the vehicles .

A long shot perhaps , but does anyone know the sound I'm trying to describe ?

Trumpet mutes are often held by hand at the end of the instrument then opened and closed for effect, I'll try and find a clip for you.
(although in this clip he's using a sink-plunger LOL)

Help us to narrow it down a bit please, Berti. Is this the sort of thing you're seeking?

Chris
Saxophones don't use mutes in the normal course of events (usually just for practice), so what you're talking about does indeed sound like a muted trumpet.

I think the guy in the video is using a cup mute, which has a similar effect to a hat mute (yes, a bowler hat, trad jazz style).

Thanks folks

That is the trumpet mutes overall sound i'm thinking of . .

However the trumpet in Answerprancer's link is a bit too bold / robust .

Chris - your link is closer to what i'm thinking of - i.e more softer / sedate/ serene .
Have you got an example which is played a bit higher up the musical scale of the trumpet .?

If not i'll settle for that - therefore where can I buy recordings - any idea ?
Thanks for the reply, Berti

Check out the 'Play' (arrowhead) buttons here to see if there are any tracks which interest you:

If so you can download individual tracks, in MP3 format, for 69p each
or you can get all 60 tracks for £3.99, either as MP3s or, here, on a 3-CD set:

I was reminded of this thread whilst driving home on Tuesday. I had a big band CD playing in the car - the Ted Heath Orchestra (band leader, not the ex-prime minister) - lots of muted trumpets in their repertoire - and some of the finest players you'll ever hear.

Thanks guys for all your contributions .

The particular muted trumpet sound i'm after is that example Chris posted , called
Echoes of harlem - the other Humph examples and the other artists are , although muted trumpets - different

I'd be happy if i can get some more of the mentioned example
