Tracing deceased persons insurance policies/savings accounts

I have recently lost a relative and am trying to sort out the will.  I believe he has savings accounts and insurance policies, but cannot find any record of them.  any ideas how i trace his finances

Try the British Bankers Association Dormants Accounts UNit (this does not cover Building scoietys but will cover Abbey National etc who are now Banks) - 0207 216 8909

Also The UNclaimed Assets Register - 0870 241 1713 for life policies, pensions etc

thanks, it may be clutching at straws, but my friend is an only child and not well paid but wanted to do right by her father, funeral wise, and now has to pay.
