I have received an email purporting to be from Customs and Excise and telling me that I have £167 overpaid tax to reclaim. They ask me to fill in the attached form and email back to claim as it cannot be done over thephone. This is obviously a scam and I have not opened the attachment but I wonder if it is common or if I should report it to anyone. Janet

Scam mails are extremely common, just delete it. Certainly don't forward it on or that makes you as bad as the spammer.
life's too short to report scam emails, imho. Customs will certainly be aware of their existence as they're quite common.
I get loads of these.

Most of mine tell me they owe me about £800ish, so I must be considerably richer than yow.

Just mark it as spam and bin it.
it has been discussed her before http://www.theanswerb...e/Question931493.html
tomking if you mean report it to the police, i tried they were not interested they just said oh yes we know all about it,
The fact that they don't mention you by name should be your biggest clue to a scam email.
you have to think logically as well, customs and excise would not email you, they would contact you in writing.

Just reply and you will get hundreds.
OR just go and post your email address on a few web sites, you'll soon think you are so popular it's untrue and the offers of money from all around the world will flood in.
