hi all, im looking to buy a telescope and im wondering if the one in aldi is worth the money. i know very little about telescopes so any advice would be great.

Magnification: 35x to 525x
76mm mirror diameter
700mm focal length
5 x 24 viewfinder
Stand included
Erecting lens 1.5x magnification for terrestrial observation
3 Huygens-type eyepieces with the following focal lengths: 4mm, 12mm and 20mm
Stellarium astronomy software on CD (Vista and Windows 7 compatible

they are asking £70.

Im no expert but was once told that a 4 inch mirror was the absolute minimum to do any serious work. 76mm is 3 inch.

Hi xxcon, that is not particularly cheap, for £120 you should be able to get a 110mm mirror,tripod, equatorial mount, (absolutely essential) and a motor drive (crude but effective), with a 70mm lens you probably wont be able to see the bands on jupiter, (you can with 110mm). Maximum useable magnification no more than 50X. Magnification is proportional to mirror diameter.
