...there's over 6 1/2 hours coverage of today's GP on BBC 1+2.

6 1/2 hours for just one race in the season? And that's not counting the amount of time showing qualifying etc. over the last day or two.

It's a disgrace.

well i think over half of the population will still be in bed when the GP is on esp on a Sunday morning! and probably nursing their hang over so i dont think they are bothered.
Scrapheap Challenge is wall to wall on More 4 at the moment....

I don't like football OR motor racing OR horse racing OR snooker OR golf, stuffed for daytime TV some weekends.
i watched gp from 9am ish quite enjoyed it :) i love watching all sports apart from golf, horse racing, and snooker

Some of the cable/satellite channels do tend to show blocks of episodes of the same programme for several hours at a time, which really messes up the My Programmes part of online Radio Times.

WhiteBears - sport comprises a major part of my tv viewing but Formula 1 gets too much coverage imho
if theres nowt on telly then go out for a walk, do your chores, read a book, listen to music etc lol :-P not having a go but..... anyway for me i can live without a tv.
F1 gets far too much coverage. I like the sport but no longer watch the full race as there are always long periods of utter boredom. I now watch the highlights on Sunday evening and even then they sometime struggle to fill 45 mins!

The reason I posted this was that when live footie is shown midweek there usually seem to be complaints that the soaps aren't on because of it, yet there are no complaints when a motor race is on for more than twice the duration.
Well bibble, that's because other people's viewing highlights are not sidelined by a darned football match. Why can't they give football a major slot on a Sports Channel? Show sport on a Sports Channel, what's so difficult about that?
Question Author
The soaps and reality shows sideline my viewing highlights so shove them on some channel all on their own; get rid of them and maybe some interesting programmes might be made.
The GP was a bit boring with the stopage and a lot of it behind the safety car but at least I had the rugby on BBC2 to watch. You will never get complaints from me about the soaps not being on because of football. Can't stand them and they seem to be on more and more these days. Agree with you on that one about putting them on a channel on their own, preferably a channel I can't get. Took me a couple of years to wean the OH off them now she never watches any.

like you, theshedman, i only complain about soaps etc. as a response to others complaining about the showing of sport on tv (the OP was tongue in cheek)

(or not like you)
Sport is on TV a lot less than the soaps. Why do these TV companies think everyone wants to see soaps non stop, like Christmas evening when there is nothing else on except soaps and repeats. They are my bugbear in case you didn't realise Lol.
todays farcicle grand prix was a one off event, why does the coverage of some sports event enrage people so much? its high time the bbc had its own sports channel.

motor racing is not on often enough to offend soap watchers as its on of a sunday every few weeks, midweek matches are shown during "soap hours"

personally I prefer any sport over the soaps, but I rarely come on b!tching because there are hours worth of soaps on every day of the week with it all regurgitated again at the weekend.
I don't watch the soaps either, or X Factor or similar, so I'm siding with all of you
Question Author
and what about Sundays? omnibus editions of DeadEnders, Coronary Street and Wallyoaks
yes, like I say almost every day of the week we are force fed soaps and yet a race held on a day with dire viewing anyway is critisised because of weather delays..
