Video Recorder Trouble

My video recorder sometimes switches itself off. I wonder if the machine itself is faulty, or if this problem could be caused by a faulty videotape. Some of my videotapes are very old (10 years or more) but they are all mixed in with newer tapes, so I dont know which is which. I know I could buy some new tapes and try them out, but I wondered if any ABers have had any experience with the video machine switching itself off, and a possible solution. Thanks in advance.

If the machine is old it's probably wear and tear. Belts get loose, moving parts need greasing or replacing and so on. Probably not the tapes. Some of mine are more than 20 years old now, and give no problem. A good service may cure it.

Thanks for that. Machine is about 2 years old, I didnt think about it needing a service.
