how long do pupkins last once they have been carved, do they start to go all manky after a certain amount of time, if so, how long?

Pumpkin pie, spiced pumpkin soup...drying the inside with a hairdryer helps them last a little longer and using the battery operated fake tealights means they don't smell as much
