I had breakfast with a mate of mine and his wife and the topic of conversion was that their 10year old son who attends a Catholic School had been given sex lessons with video support on sex, both for procreation and for sexual pleasure. The child who is super intelligent ( which isnt?) asked specific questions about the sexual act of his parents.
Now, the main bone of contention was that if the sexual education was THAT graphic and specific, shouldn´t the school have described or indeed mentioned....contraception?

Den....maybe, but I could easily be deflected...;.)
My view is that parents should be speaking to children about all these issues as they come up. Most wont that's why it is passed to the education authorities to deal with. For me it should be treated as any other subject - there is an expected curriculum that covers all the necessary elements. If one of those elements is contraception then it should have to be taught together with everything else.

Personally I prefer to equip my kids with the knowledge they need and at 9 and 10 they know what condoms are for because they see the machines in the toliets and asked. We might need a refresher though as I heard my youngest saying that condoms catch the stuff that leaves out your balls! We haven't covered any other contraception as they havent asked and don't need to know yet - they are both boys.
