shall I ditch all my cds?

i am in the process of burning all my cds, to put on my ipod. I am in a bit of a quandry though; I don't see the point of keeping them all, and I could do with the shelf space! But, when you see them all piled up, and realise how much they've all cost - gulp! Will I regret taking them down to the charity shop?

never EVER get rid of your original cds. they are a part of you. i made the mistake in my life of selling my vinyl (i was desperate for the money) and i've regretted it ever since.
i've burned all my cds to a hard drive but kept the orginals because they look good on the shelf

Not unless you are extremely limited for space and need to generate money by auctioning them off.
Just box them up and stash them in the loft.

Put them all on to a spare/back-up hard drive, then if you need them in the future you can easily access them, then sell the original discs on.

Regarding alavalf's post.
Yes some charity shops will allow you to 'gift aid' the gifts for them to sell but I recall hearing on MoneyBox that you (not the shop) are then liable for giving a refund for to customers if goods are faulty. Not really a problem for CDs but can be with clothes etc

I have used Music Magpie- it's convenient (they give you a price online and then send a stamped and labelled bag to post them off in) but you only get 30-60p a CD.

I once bought a load of CDs from a charity stall selling fairly well known CDs for 4 for a £1. I then sold them all on Music Magpie making a profit of 20p a CD on average. I felt a tiny bit guilty after but I suppose everyone was a winner really

put them in a box and keep them so that when the next super hi fi version of ipod or whatever comes out you can re-burn them at a higher quality level. Above all keep them.

(Especially after accidently deleting a load of toons yestaerday!)
I don't agree with the statement about quality though. The sound through my ipod dock is a-maz-ing!

Reading over this thread has made me think ...

If you were to back up all your original CD's.
Then decide to give the CD's away or even sell them.
Does that then mean that your backups become illegal copies ...
... and that you would be in possession of counterfit copies.

It was just a thought.!
