Tax Underpayments!
20 Answers
Had my brown envelope from the taxman drop through my letterbox today, I am fizzing, not only are they after a four figure sum of money because of their effin cockup but they are also charging 3% interest on top. I have worked all of my life but it just shows you are better off just sponging off the state. I bet the French wouldn't put up with this.

Engage straight away - there is a form to fill in (I'm trying to find it) where you can object if you felt hat the tax office had all your details and there was no reason to expect tax was underpaid. http://www.mcshanewri...146&d=601&h=160&f=260
Here's the paper I was looking for, about how to appeal: http://www.litrg.org....A19_Guide_Oct2010.pdf
Karen, I wouldn't know, but you're encouraged to make contact a.s.a.p. before any employer starts making plans to deduct it. I wouldn't hang around - we haven't heard anything yet but if we do, I'm going to protest straight away - I have had routine correspondence with the tax office during the last two years and have absolutely no reason to expect that anything was amiss with my or Mr Box's codes. If they've messed up the PAYE codes, that's not our fault.
