and I have come to a sudden stop. My dad buys all his groceries froms Lidl and he bought me some haddock in breadcrumbs. As I'm eating it I have noticed that not only does it still have the skin on and there are a few bones, it still has scales on it! What is it with Lidl?! I don't even shop there myself but when I've eaten something from there at my parents something isn't quite right with their products.

Does it still have its head on? There is nothing worse than trying to eat something that is looking up at you.

No head on this one Wolf. Its breaded so it should have been de-scaled and skinned. TBH I don't mind the skin and a few bones as its hard to get all of them out but scales is a different matter alltogether.
I believe lidl is cheap lower quality shop unless it's changed so maybe you get exactly what you pay for, if the haddock still has scales on it I dread to think what the chicken and other meats are like, maybe they still have fur or feathers on!
Wolf, I got fish at a restaurant one time and it still had the head on - I had to borrow a slice of carrot off my friend to put over the fish's eye ;)
My uncle got married when I was 10 (1973) and we were fed trout with its head still on - I have horrified and fascinated at the sight of it.

Like tigger - the scales, bones etc can dent your enjoyment of a fishy meal.

I'm not really bothered by eating a fish with its head on like trout or red mullet etc, but even the fresh fish in a restaurant is de-scaled!

I guess its a case of you get what you pay for in Lidl. My mum got some humous from there a few months ago and they'ed forgot to put some of the ingredients. It tasted disgusting.
makes you wonder what kind of factories they get their foods from...

I don't even what to think about it Cazzz. I've heard some behind the scenes horror stories about Tesco but Lidl could be much worse. I'll have to have words with my parents. Maybe another argument will occur! Lol
lol the argument will be worse than the food!! is it worth the risk
I hate to say it, but Lidls also have some very good stuff as very as grotty stuff. There german food annd other european food is usually very good and their chocolate is known to be excellent - Plantation Estate. (Look up the reviews).

I don't buy their meat or fish, but their veg are usually excellent and local. Lidl is really no different from any other supermarket - their goods come from various sources and nothing is 'own brand'.

You just have to get to know what is good and what is not - same as any other shop.
*their goods come from various sources*
That maybe the problem loftylottie, other supermarkets have few suppliers and can monitor and track their produce especially if there are bad batches. If lidl uses many sources then ho can they track anything if it's coming from every direction?
hello lottie, how're you doing?
we don't have a lidl near us, or a netto, but if they're anything like aldi (are they anything like aldi??) then i'd agree that you just have to be choosy. most of aldi's stuff is great but there's some i wouldn't ever buy.
Do shoppers at Waitrose often complain about their food produces?
its obviously a drawback in shopping in very cheap stores
Years ago, when dining in posh restaurants, the trout would still be alive swimming in a tank. When selecting the one you wanted, the waiter would always ask, "Head on, or head off, Sir?"

I've never shopped at Waitrose but I've never tasted anything bad from M&S.
