My wife and I were out with our children in our car which I was drivinig. After dropping children off at an art studio we both had an argument. While this argument is going on, a car pulls out in front of me and I had to brake very hard to avoid accident. My wife bumped her face on the dashboad and started bleeding heavily. I stoped and tried to stop the bleeding with tissues. My wife was furious and said I did it on purpose and that she will report it to police as assault. I apologized to her and said it was an accident but she did not let go. She did not call the police immediately because we both had an appointment to keep. We went to the appointment where she told people there that we had an accident. Later on I drove her and children back home and went to work. Next day I was arrested on suspicion of ABH on my wife's complaint wherein she described our 18 years of troubled marriage and my, alleged, repeated assaults on her. Although these assaults were never brought into notice of police before. She was photographed with a cut and swelling on upper lip. When I was interviewed I told them what happened. I was told then that had I agreed to the allegation of my wife I would have been released with a caution but since I refuted her allegations the case will go to CPS and they will decide about charging me. I was released on bail to appear before police again in a month's time. I have never had a chance to be in trouble with law before and I do not know what is going to happen next. Can somebody help?
Mmmmm! - Its a 50/50 case here.
You'll probably get off with a caution & a fine. Unless at the last minute your wife drops the charges. - Is that likely? Is she just making you sweat?
Doesn 't matter whether she drops the charges or not. It is the legal system that is prosecuting you, not your wife.
She would have to admit to lying to make a difference, in which case she could be charged with perverting the course of justice and wasting police time.
