A silly question to a lot of folk; especially those in the North of the UK.

During the past few weeks my BT Broadband speeds have dropped from 6.3 (download) to 1.7 and (upload) ) 0.22 to 0.15.

Last week I telephoned BT and the firm's overseas representative (male) was somewhat dismissal of my complaint and intimated that it was probably a local Exchange fault which would return to normal speeds for my area within a few days.

I telephoned again today and spoke to a very pleasant Indian Lady who was most helpful and told me that there were problems and that some people in the North of the UK were even without any connections. She then took me through the process of re-setting my Router and then having me check the results. However, as there had not been any speed improvements, she went off-line and telephoned back after checking-out my telephone line which seems to be ok. The outcome is that she has reported matters and arranged for me to be contacted tomorrow morning by a BT Technician from my local Telephone Exchange.

Incidentally, I have always held the view that female are more sympathetic to one's problems than are males and my wife Viv agrees. !!!

I'm in the North and have a constant speed of 7.6 with BT Broadband. Your normal speed should not vary unless there is a problem at the exchange.
yes i have the answer, in the address bar type 192.168.1.254 then your hub manager screen comes up and you put the admin password in and set a new one

Thanks dotty for your suggestion. However I think I'll hang on until tomorrow and see what further ( if anything) BT has to say on the matter.

Either of the following links should give you free test of your speeds;-

Best of luck...Ron.
You can check the status of BTs broadband service here

http://btbusiness.cus...om/app/service_status

And it does seem the have an ongoing problem in the North of England. (maybe the whippet on the hamster wheel has run out of breath :))

Hi Chuck.....Thanks for the link. I've had a look at the page but there is nothing listed for the Gower district (Swansea telephone area.)

My position is,therefore unaltered. Guess I'll have to see if arrangements, made via India, come to fruition fruition in the UK and a local BT Technician does telephone me today!!! Wishful thinking on my part.!!!
