Am doing a quiz with 45 questions. Managed to get answers to all but 3.  The answers will be girls names.

The clues are:

1.  In astronomy, find out what a large laval bassalt plain on the surface of the moon, appearing dark by contrast with highland areas is called and the plural of this is the answer required.  (Have googled till I'm exhausted with this one!)

2.  A bit nutty  but she has lovely eyes! (I thought of Betty - eg Betty Davis eyes -but no idea where the nutty comes in!)

3.  A feeling of pity, distress or grief

Can anyone help?

Excellent! 2 down 1 more to go!
Hazel - a nut and an eye colour?
According to  my ancient encyclopedia the moon one is Maria
Which would be the plural of Mare, which is Latin for sea, I think. Good one. Sorted

Came up with this: (Note the plural!)

Mare (pronounced "mahr-ay") pl. maria (pronounced "ma-ree-ah"), "Sea"; a large circular plain on the Moon; specifically, the low albedo plains covering the floors of several large basins and spreading over adjacent areas. The mare material is comprised primarily of basaltic lava flows, in contrast to the anorthosites in the highlands.

Hope that's the one.

Too late!

Well done the other two!

PS. Found it here through Google:-

Oh, thank you! Aren't you clever!  I hope to repay the favour and help out with some answers for other people's questions - but I'm lousy at cryptic ones! Thanks again!
Louquest, keep at the cryptic ones, they're worth it!
