Going home with conviction

Can anyone please ! tell me will the usa know about a conviction i may recieve here when i go to trail (next month) I am a permanent resident of the US (british national) and want to return home when this is all over with. I have found out that they cannot refuse me re-entery to the states, but my residencey could be revoked with a conviction. Are they referring to a conviction in the states or anywhere. How would they know about a conviction here ? Would very much appreciate anyone knowledge on this. Thanks
