I have a copy of an American recipe for stuffed tomatoes with walnuts and pomegranate, which calls for pomegranate paste. Anyone know where I might get any in the UK or, alternatively, what might give similar flavours?

Its used in middle eastern cooking so I'd try an Asian grocery store.

Ask the assistants for help - you'll get lots of great cooking tips!

Pomegranate paste is most frequently associated with Persian/Iranian cooking although the imported stuff (which is actually more of a syrup than a true paste) usually comes from Lebanon.

You don't say where you are in the UK. In the North-West your best bet would be somewhere like
Iranian Delicatessen
92 Bury Old Rd
Manchester
M8 5BW
0161-720 9777

In London try
Lebanese Deli
346 Uxbridge Road W12
020 8740 8300

In Oxford, possibly L Bs, 253 Banbury Road
Tel 311660

All of the above comes from a few simple searches on Altavista but, unless you're close to the places suggested, it would probably be simplest to reach for your local Yellow Pages, look up 'Delicatessens' and make a few phone calls.

I hope that the final flavour is worth all the effort!
