this is not a question, just a statement, where I live, at the moment it is like world war 3, with the fireworks going off, there is also an organised display as well, my poor cats are so distracted, one is sitting on my lap, while i,m on the laptop, the other one is cowering under the bed, isnt it about time November 5th was put to bed once and for all, after all it,s over 400 years now, and what a waste of money. Last night they were even going off at 2am in the morning.
trt - yes and no. We only had fireworks under supervision, my dad set them off and we made sure the dog was indoors. Fireworks only happened on 5 Nov or the Saturday nearest to it, in my far-off youth.
I also remember it always being infernally cold on Guy Fawkes' Night, we used to wear hats and gloves and sheepskin coats!
Unfortunately trt it is not just once a year though is it? They have been going off every day this week so far and, no doubt, will continue so to do for a good few more. Then there will be Christmas and New Year and anybody's birthday in between. Shall I mention those that follow the summer bbq's too? No, I never did let off fireworks. I personally find them very antisocial as the noise from tonight's fireworks going off like WWII is preventing me from hearing the radio - or wireless as I like to call it. Why should I have to put up with someone else's noise at ridiculous decibel level?
As I type this....there are fireworks by the former winners of the national fireworks championships-not 500 metres from here at the city rugby grounds.
I can guarantee it is louder than anything anyone else is hearing...it made me jump out of my seat with the first bang. So I really don't need insensitive comments from those who say it's 'just' one night per year.
My dog....and I'm sure many other animals...is terrified.
Pasta - sorry for your poor dog and all animals in this season of pyrotechnicmania. I wish I could turn off my hearing aids...Boxy - are you well over the channel this morning then? ;o)
trt i used to love them when i was young but we could only buy them just before the 5th and only let them off on the 5th.
they have been going off round near me for weeks and like other people say they let them off for parties and weddings etc,
a few houses in tameside have also come under attack, see link below and note the date when this happened
