Me and mum are going to Cambridge for the day soon.
In the morning we get a guided tour round the university but the afternoon is ours, can anyone suggest other things to see/do? We'll have 4-5 hours to kill . . . .
Lots of interesting Museums, Fitzwilliam is probably the best.
Also Cambridge has a very good Botanical garden even at this time of the year.

The punts which Trinity College hire out to the public aren't available at this time of year. One of the main commercial companies, The Cambridge Punting Company, ceases trading from October to March, as does the Granta Boat & punt Company. But Scudamore's normally seem to trade whenever the weather allows. (NB: They're far from cheap!)

Your post reminded me of Brian Walden (former Labour MP/TV presenter from the 1980’s) who I believe won a scholarship to Oxford University. He recounted that on arrival at the city’s train station, he asked a porter for directions to the ‘University’.
Anyway – enjoy your tour of the ‘University’ (albeit Cambridge).
