The broad term 'onomastics' - the study of proper names ' is defined in Merriam's Dictionary as: 'The science or study of the origin and forms of proper names of persons or places'. However, there appears to be no further sub-division into personal names, then forenames and surnames, and associated terminology. I'm making further inquiries with a lexicographer.
