the place should have been burnt down years ago - by marauding Scots from across the border - they didnt have GPS back then! The place doesnt have good memories for me as I spent many a day (too long) chasing folk that had gone missing (ok) or those pretending they had or on exercises (not ok) with Mountain Death Crew
thanks - as your ex (and you) probably know the genuine we welcome - the hoaxers and 'tricksters' MRs can really do without......some of the training can be arduous. Not much difference with those foilk who really put it on the line with the RNLI or the Air Rescue.....
One of the best ones we had was a 12 year old ESN (educationally sub normal) who escaped his instituiton in Sedbergh at about 2pm - 400 searchers were scrambled and soon out there but no luck - some 22 hours later he was found by a farmer grazing like a sheep in a field above Ingelborough. At least he was safe and the remarkable thing was in that time he had travelled some 20 miles as the crow flies - and across all that wonderful Karst landscape with its potholes and small cliffs etc etc.......
