Why was the ENTIRE thread pulled ?

AFAIK there were only one or two posts that may have contradicted the rules.
I don't understand why any of the VERY FEW posts that could have neen seen as offensive were not simply removed, leaving the rest of this well meaning and topical thread active.

Personally I think that the 2 minute silence and poppies are but a token gesture. So many people have been killed by wars and we should never forget that. But what have we learned? We have a two minute silence once per year and somehow we think that makes up for all the war and killing that goes on all year long.

To really celebrate/commemorate the Armistice we would need to stop bickering and fighting (from AB level up to international level) and all live in peace.

Maybe after the two minutes we could write to our MPs to ask them to speak out for a policy of giving greater consideration to peaceful means when potential conflict situations arise, and also to work across party lines as some things are more important than petty points scoring in the HOC and the media.....

jake, when I fled the country (and it wasn't the country I was fleeing but a certain person!) it wasn't in moral decline!

I don't think so...not overall....there have always been areas where socially unacceptable behaviour is prevalent but over all I think the Uk is still a good place to live...most people still seem to care about others, most of my friends have reasonably well behaved children and live 'normal' respectable lives and while I would never want to go back to live in London I still feel pretty safe going out at night.

Most the people I know are honest, hardworking people who bring their children up to respect other people.
