anyone read a book about a squirrel war???

I had it as a child but forgotten the title so can't search for it!! it is quite a serious book about a war between red and grey squirrles in a forest somewhere. Also looking for a book about a boy who finds a griffin disguised as a dog.

I have a book from my childhood called "Miss Suzy" by Miriam Young. Miss Suzy is a grey squirrel who is run out of her home by red squirrels.  She find a new home in a doll house in an attic. She finds some soldiers and they end up running the red squirrels out of Miss Suzy's old home.  Is this the book you remember?
