For the past two days it seems to be 'busy' I can only imagine it is updating while I'm trying to use it, the light is flickering on the edge of the keyboard as I type. Then the screen goes hazy and the 'eggtimer' appears. Then I can't do anything.
Is there any way I can check what is being updated, and is there is chance I can stop it when I'm working on it. It drives me mad.

Me neither ayg..........random access memory is I think what is used to run programmes, so if you haven't enough they won't run.....
Try Start/Help & Support/System Restore and choose an earlier date to reset. Boot up PC after completion.

Thanks for your help jaydah, looking through the troubleshooting reminded me that my laptop has failed to shut down properly a couple of times. I wasn't aware of it at the time until I came to turn it on again. I haven't added any new programmes so I'm a bit puzzled. I'll have to study it out,
